Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of Undeprecated, the coding practice service at undeprecated.dev, operated by Tech Shepherd LLC ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using the service you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you use Undeprecated on behalf of an organization, you agree to these terms for that organization.

1. Your account

  • You must be at least 16 years old to use Undeprecated.
  • You sign in with a link sent to your email address or with GitHub. Keep access to that email account and your GitHub account secure: anyone who can open your sign-in links can use your account.
  • An account is for one person. Do not share it or sign in as someone else.
  • Give us accurate information and keep your email address current.

2. The service

Undeprecated provides short coding practice sessions with exercises graded automatically. We are in early access: features, exercises, tracks and limits may change, and we may add, change or remove parts of the service. We will try to give notice of changes that significantly affect paid plans.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Try to obtain answer keys, hidden tests or grading rubrics, or to manipulate scores, ratings or integrity signals.
  • Submit code designed to escape or attack the grading sandbox, overload our systems, or reach networks or data it is not meant to reach.
  • Scrape, copy or redistribute exercises in bulk, or access the service with bots or automated tools other than a normal browser.
  • Probe, scan or test the security of the service without our written permission, or interfere with other users.
  • Use the service for anything unlawful, or to submit content that infringes someone else's rights.
  • Resell or provide the service to others without a team or enterprise agreement with us.

If you find a security issue, please report it to privacy@undeprecated.dev instead of testing it further.

4. Your code and answers

You keep ownership of the code and answers you submit. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, run, analyze and display them as needed to operate the service: to grade them (including sending them to the AI and sandbox providers described in our Privacy Policy), show them back to you, show results to your organization if you practice under a team plan, and produce aggregate statistics that improve our exercises. This license ends when your submissions are deleted, except for aggregate statistics that do not identify you.

Do not submit confidential code, secrets, credentials or personal information in your answers.

5. Our content

The exercises, explanations, grading materials, software, design and branding of Undeprecated belong to Tech Shepherd LLC or its licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use them through the service for your own practice.

6. Grading and scores

Grading is automated. Tests, rules and AI review can be wrong, and AI feedback in particular may be incomplete or inaccurate. Scores, ratings and integrity flags are practice aids. They are not a certification, an assessment of your professional competence or a basis for employment decisions on their own.

7. Plans, payment and cancellation

  • The free plan includes a limited number of practice sessions per week. Paid plans, when available, are billed in advance monthly or yearly at the price shown when you subscribe, plus any applicable taxes.
  • Payments are processed by Stripe. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel. You authorize us, through Stripe, to charge your payment method for each renewal.
  • You can cancel at any time from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and you keep paid features until then.
  • Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable and we do not give credits for partial periods. If you believe you were charged in error, contact us at privacy@undeprecated.dev and we will review it.
  • We may change prices for future billing periods. We will tell you before a price change applies to your subscription, and you can cancel before it takes effect.
  • If a payment fails, we may suspend paid features until it is resolved.

8. Ending your use

You can stop using the service at any time and ask us to delete your account by emailing privacy@undeprecated.dev. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, if your use creates risk or legal exposure for us or others, or if we stop offering the service. If we end the service entirely, we will give reasonable notice and refund any prepaid amount for the unused period.

9. Disclaimers

The service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not promise that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, or that grading results will be correct.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Tech Shepherd LLC will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose and US $50. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

11. Indemnity

You agree to defend and indemnify Tech Shepherd LLC against claims, losses and costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these terms or your misuse of the service.

12. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state in which Tech Shepherd LLC is organized, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in that state, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction. Before filing a claim, please contact us at privacy@undeprecated.dev so we can try to resolve it informally. Nothing here limits rights you have under the consumer protection laws of the place where you live.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will change the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, tell signed-in users by email or in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use the service after changes take effect means you accept them.

14. General

These terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the service. If a provision is found unenforceable, the rest remain in effect. Our not enforcing a provision is not a waiver. You may not transfer these terms without our consent; we may transfer them as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.
